Goodwood Betting Odds
Great Betting at Goodwood
The track is unique in its eccentricities. There’s a straight six furlongs course on which the Stewards’ Cup is run. This is uphill for the first furlong but then downhill for much of the rest of the race.
There’s also a right-hand loop at the top of that course where races over 10 furlongs, a mile-and-a-half and a mile-and-six are held. The longest race held at Goodwood is over 2m5f and is run over the Cup Course. Here horses start from close to the winning post, travel outwards on the straight around the loop and back. There are undulations and sharp turns throughout so it’s essential to check the form and race cards before checking the latest odds.
In terms of the draw low numbers are very much favoured in races over a mile or ten furlongs, this is a particularly strong statistic in the Betfred Mile.
Betting at Glorious Goodwood Racing Festival
The Sussex Stakes is the feature race of Glorious Goodwood and was won twice by the great Frankel, including a memorable clash with Canford Cliffs in 2011.
Richard Hughes has been by far and away the most successful jockey at Goodwood in recent years – riding over 70 winners. William Buick and Ryan Moore are next best ahead of Pat Dobbs and Kieren Fallon.
Following the retirement of Richard Hannon senior, Mark Johnston is the leading trainer and he has enjoyed remarkable success at the Glorious meeting. Local trainer Amanda Perrett is another name to note along with Marcus Tregoning, who won the Vintage Stakes with his subsequent Derby winner Sir Percy.
Richard Hannon Junior looks like following in his father’s footsteps and is quickly rattling up plenty of winners at the track, certainly one to watch in the Goodwood betting form.
