Chepstow Betting Odds
Martin Pipe dominated the race for a spell and his Carvill’s Hill was a brilliant winner of the 1991 renewal. He too went on to that season’s Cheltenham Gold Cup but was beaten in a very controversial race in which Pitman ran Golden Freeze as a pacemaker for her other contender Toby Tobias.
Flat racing is held throughout the summer and while the Welsh Derby, Oaks and St Leger are no longer run, many leading trainers have runners there, making Chepstow form a good indicator of the form and betting to come in other race cards.
Over the last five seasons David Probert has been the most successful Flat jockey at the track and Andrew Balding, his main employer, the winning most trainer, making a formidable pair in the racing markets and odds. In terms of jockeys Cathy Gannon, Richard Hughes and Pat Dobbs have also enjoyed plenty of success while Bernard Llewellyn and Ron Harris are trainers to note for future betting opportunities.
In jumps racing Paul Moloney, Richard Johnson and Tom Scudamore have been the top riders and Philip Hobbs, David Pipe and Paul Nicholls the leading trainers. It’s also worth noting that Welsh trainers Rebecca Curtis and Evan Williams often
target the track with their better horses.
