ance to bet on which Trap will win the most races at a specified track each day.
The Golden Jacket is traditionally greyhound racing’s first major event each year, culminating in a Sky Sports-screened final at Crayford every February following a series of heats throughout the month.
This event began over 40 years ago and has also been held at Harringay, Hall Green, Monmore and Wimbledon but only Crayford has hosted it since 1996.
But the biggest prize and most coveted trophy in the greyhound racing calendar is undoubtedly the Greyhound Derby, which reaches its climax at Wimbledon Stadium every June.
The competition begins a month earlier as the top trainers in the sport hope their dogs can win through the heats and earn a spot in the Sky Sports-screened live final where the champion is crowned.
First staged at White City Stadium in 1927, Greyhound Derby moved to Wimbledon back in 1985 and has been raced over 480 metres ever since.
Charlie Lister OBE is the most successful trainer in Derby history having won it seven times while one of his champions Rapid Ranger, who triumphed in 2000 & 2001 - is one of only four dogs to have won the race on two occasions.
The most recent dog to join this exclusive club is Westmead Hawk, who won for Nick Savva in 2005 and 2006 while the others are Mick the Miller (1929 and 1930) and Patricias Hope (1972 and 1973).
